Garden Party End of the Module Event

James Hedges Elementary School located in the Back of the Yards neighborhood held their final Garden Party showcase event for the summer, after 13 seventh grade girls completed the Scientists for Tomorrow People and Plants module.

With the collaboration of After School Matters (ASM) and Columbia College, the program initiated the 6 week module, so participants can gain understanding on the similarities and differences between people and plants. Similar to the Scientists for Tomorrow modules offered throughout the academic year, the teens built bird houses, greenhouses and three garden beds through the exploration of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math).

The final showcase event brought together many families and community members to participate in the ribbon cutting ceremony. There was also  live dance performances, food and refreshments provided by ASM teens and staff  from other programs.
